God has made us all different and has designed us to operate effectively in different tasks. Some of us are called to support and some are called to lead. Some are energetic, some are calm. Some extrovert and some introvert.
When you think of an entrepreneur do you think of a high flying executive winning new business and leading commercial empires? If you’re young and starting out in business you need to know that every gift starts out in an embryonic state. Success doesn’t happen overnight, and even the most thriving entrepreneurs made their greatest achievements following a collection of failures.
So wipe away any preconceived ideas of what you think an entrepreneur is and go through our checklist below. There are 10 characteristics that we think are found in the entrepreneurially gifted person. (By the way, it’s in no particular order.)
1. You have your head in the clouds. All entrepreneurs are visionary by nature; they see things that others can’t. Sometimes they’re accused of living in cloud cuckoo land, but that’s where God designed them to predominantly hang out! They’re constantly dreaming of new ideas and imagining better ways of doing things. And not just one idea, but loads.
2. You keep focus. The ability to stay focused and see clearly amongst a myriad of conflicting messages is a gift that a good entrepreneur carries. Concentration and perseverance are prominent abilities.
3. You get up when you’re knocked down. When the chips are down and everything around you seems to have fallen to pieces, entrepreneurs get straight back up with a degree of resilience. Not only that, they’ll use this experience to help them achieve greater success in the future.
4. You’re glass is half full, not half empty. Entrepreneurs recognise negatives, but major on the positives. They have the ability to shine a light when everyone else is in darkness. Where others see problems, you see possibilities.
5. You’re a bit crazy! Entrepreneurs are not insane, but they do have a wild streak which is often used by God to do the most risky-looking tasks.
6. You’re confident. Self-belief is paramount in the life of the entrepreneur. Everything is possible if you believe you can do it. And for the Christian entrepreneur the sky really is the limit as they are not only confident in themselves, but in God’s ability to go beyond what they can humanly achieve.
7. You often act on impulse. Entrepreneurs spot a great opportunity and take the initiative. They see a great deal and pay for it on the spot. They come across a need and meet it without hesitation. They might not always be right, but their natural impulses are so strong that their reaction can often be to ‘act now, think later’.
8. You’re streetwise. Entrepreneurs have their finger on the pulse. They’re sharp, attentive, on the ball and shrewd. They will not only take opportunities where others don’t, but they will also see them where others don’t.
9. Your lack of knowledge is no barrier. Appreciating that you don’t have to know how everything works when you set out to achieve something is a hallmark of an entrepreneur. They live a process of continually learning and adapting as they go through life. Obstacles are stepping stones not stumbling blocks.
10. You don’t like losing. Winning is the goal of the entrepreneur. They are competitive and results orientated. When competing in games or sports it’s important that they enjoy themselves – but they also play to win!
If the majority of these statements describe you in some way, shape or form, then this site will equip, inspire and release you to step into the entrepreneur’s shoes and honour God with the gifts he has given you.
